How to Make Mexican Paper Flowers

How to Make Mexican Paper Flowers

Learning how to make Mexican paper flowers such as those that you see in some of the stores around town or on some of the television shows on the T.V. is not as hard as you might think. Although after I was involved in a devastating car accident a while ago, and had been bed ridden for many months with no transportation, I thought that learning to make these and other paper flowers might be something difficult for me because of no prior interest. I began looking for alternative activities to get involved in (besides watching television!) and I eventually discovered how interesting and gratifying making Mexican paper flowers can be.

Making Mexican paper flowers gave me an outlet of how to express myself through creativity. Not only is it an inexpensive hobby, but it also is very relaxing and when you finally have a finished product it is exceptionally rewarding. I thought that it would only be an activity I would perform during my recuperation period, but I was wrong. Making these Mexican paper flowers has now become one of my favorite pass times.

There are only a few items that are needed to make a Mexican paper flower. Tissue paper or crepe paper, pipe cleaner, twisty wire tie, scissors, ruler, coloring markers, perfume, and an imagination. Most of these items can be found in your kitchen cabinets, tool drawer or at the local store. Then once you have all of the needed items and hardware for making those Mexican paper flowers the fun begins.

Here is your first lesson learning how to make Mexican paper flowers:

1) First, you want to make the leaves, so you cut a pile of 6 to 10 pieces of paper 10 inches wides, and 14-20 inches long.

2) Next, you want to make approximately 1 inch folds in the layers (accordion style).

3) Then you need to tie the middle or the accordion with a twisty wire tie. Then you get to use your creative mind and trim all the edges with your scissors.

4) Then, start at the outside of the flower and start to bend each piece of tissue paper in half (be very gentle with this step).

5) The last step is use the pipe cleaner for the stem of your festive Mexican paper flower and as a special additive you can also spray that Mexican paper flower with perfume to make it perfect.

A situation arose in my own life where friends of my family commented on how original and gorgeous the Mexican flowers I made were. This made me feel extremely good inside. I then began to explain how easy and inexpensive it was to do and the enjoyment I felt while doing it. Later that year, my family and I were at their house and sure enough they had a vase full of Mexican paper flowers displayed in the middle of their dining room table.

Once you actually design and create a Mexican paper flower you will see how much fun and relaxing it is. It can become quite an addiction because you always think of different shapes, colors, or sizes to make the flowers depending on the mood your in that day.

Even if making Mexican paper flowers is not your preferred style, making other types of flower crafts such as paper flowers or origami flowers might be. Discover what countless other people have who have enriched their lives creating beautiful paper flowers either for a living, as a regular hobby or even just as a skill in their arsenal to expand their minds. Make Paper Flowers - An Introduction to Origami

Paper flowers can be used for special occasions or as gifts that will last and don't cost an arm and a leg. If you are looking to make paper flowers and have not made any before it would be best to start off with some really simple projects and work you way up.

Paper Folding or Origami (from the Japanese"oru" meaning "folding" and "kami" meaning Paper) as it is better known as is fun and therapeutic for the soul. If the paper flowers are well made they will last a long time if looked after. This can also be something to do with children on rainy days.

If you are a beginner here are some types of folds that you will encounter:

*Valley Fold - this is done by folding the paper towards yourself.

*Mountain Fold - this is done by folding the paper away from your self.

*(Inside)Reverse Fold - pre-fold the sheet of paper in both directions (mountain and valley). Then open the model a little bit and bring the top point down so that the mountain fold edge becomes a valley fold edge

*Outside Reverse Fold - it is similar to the inside reverse fold except the layers of the paper have to be wrapped around outside the point.

*Sink Fold - the sink fold is a method of blunting a point that has no open edges. The fold should first be precreased. Then carefully open the model and tuck the point inside. Flatten the model afterwards along existing creases.

Here are a few tips that might help you along your way:

*Try to make the first folds of your project as accurate as possible, if something is a little off try to fix it. As you go along, any inaccurate folding will cause more and more problems.

*Air Folding - Instead of folding you model against a table surface, try folding with your hands for a better finish.

*It is important to choose the right kind of paper for the project. this is the basic material you need and is therefore important that you get it right. These are some of the types of papers that you will need:

*Textured Paper: This kind of paper is really nice for simple origami. It can add to the gesture and also create volume.

*Thin paper with solid colours: This kind of paper is better for medium-complexity models, mostly because you can get more details in with less volume.

*Foil-backed paper: This is paper that is made of a layer of thin foil bonded to regular paper. You can buy it at most origami paper stores. It will take and hold a sharp crease very well and will compress so that places in the model that have a lot of layers won't be so thick. This paper is for more experienced people as there is no room for mistakes.

Take you time and enjoy- creating something is always rewarding, pay attention to what you are doing and you may even find that you will find a way that works better for you then those given in the instructions. the more that you put into creating your models the greater will be the reward.

How To Make Origami Flowers

How To Make Origami Flowers

Origami is a Japanese word meaning the art of folding papers into shapes to create decorative objects. Learning how to make origami flowers will give you a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Any local hobby, or art store would carry the specific color or colors of origami paper that you may need to construct your flowers. You can use regular newspaper but it is usually too thick for the folding process, however the specialized origami paper is thin enough and cut to the right size and shape.

When making an origami flower this is exactly what is done and for these origami flowers only a few tools are needed. Aside from origami paper the only tools you need are; a pair of scissors, a pencil, and a ruler.

One of the easiest origami flowers to make is the rose. Four sheets of origami paper are needed, one sheet for the leaves (green) and three sheets for the flower (red). The second red piece is about three quarters the length of the first, and the third is about three quarters the length of the second one. The fourth square (the green one) is the same size as the largest red piece. Origami square base is the pattern that will be used to fold all three of the red pieces. This process is very simple once you learn it.

Take one square and fold it on the diagonals, then on the East-West line and the North-south line.

Make sure that the colored side is facing upwards. Now fold the diagonals as the valley goes (downward), and the East-West and North-South as the mountain goes (upward). Repeat this process on the other 2 red pieces.

Make an imaginary line through the paper, then fold and unfold the right corner of the base to the middle of the imaginary line. Next fold the edge onto the crease mark you made and unfold it. And then you can fold the right edge to the left, and repeat this process on the reverse side. Perform the same steps on the other two pieces of red origami paper. Then, put the rose petal forms inside one another to giving your flower a 3D look. Lastly, shape the green paper to make leaves and put it underneath all the red pedals for a beautiful flower.

Origami flower art is an inexpensive hobby that can be very rewarding. It's not hard to learn, once you get the right directions, and it's very much fun to do. One or two hours spend on learning these processes is approximately all the time it would take. The creation of origami flowers gets faster the more of these lovely flowers you make.
