Teaching Children About Art
Infants enjoy colors. The best way to amuse them is to show them a lot of colors especially a flying towel or a handkerchief. They have an innate quality to be attracted to anything that is unusual and vibrant. This radiates the feeling in their minds to express. Art is often a medium of expression. The various moods and aspirations of the mind are well expressed with the medium chosen. Teaching children about academics is important but other soft skills are essential too.
Schools often rely on the expertise of an art teacher who can explore the talents of young minds who have a fertile sense of imagination. The teacher conceptualizes the classes for beginners and guides them accordingly. Teaching children about art is just not about paint and brushes. They relate to texture and shapes. The best way is to show them works of great artists in the contemporary format. The pictures in the mythological books also are a rich heritage form of art.
Certain children have amazing talent to understand art. The deft strokes and the choice of color truly amaze us. Beginners can also do a bi- weekly workshop at a convenient time. The initial works of art can be a simple flower, pot, smiley faces or the butterfly. Encouragement and praises make them work harder and each painting seems to be improving.
Include a bit of origami to make it more interesting for them. They love to cut and stick and finally the paint work produces a masterpiece. Let them paint the gardening pots with acrylic colors or buy them a few white handkerchiefs to paint with fabric colors. Children love to experiment and use themes that they are able to connect with. The rains unfold a lot of imagination in their minds and hence let them use colors to show you their idea of monsoon.
Drawing a birthday party or their favorite animation hero is another way to get them interested in art. Slowly they will surpass and rattle about the works of Picasso or Van Gogh which will be a pleasant surprise to all of us.
